Located in the Pascack Valley region of Bergen County, New Jersey, River Vale is a 4.3 square mile suburban community of about 10,000 full time residents. The Garden Spot

Known as the "Garden Spot" of the Pascack Valley, River Vale is a quiet community with tree-lined streets, excellent schools and wonderful recreation facilities. River Vale hosts only 2 traffic lights but also 3 golf courses. In addition, its convenience to New York City, which is less than 20 miles to the southeast, adds to the attraction of living here.

Nearby towns and the wider county

River Vale sits on the seam between the Pascack Valley and the Northern Valley, which is part of why buyers like it — you get quieter streets and golf frontage, and you are still a few minutes from the towns everyone else is shopping. Harrington Park is directly east, a two-square-mile borough with a single PK-8 school. Old Tappan is just northeast. Norwood, Northvale and Closter round out the cluster. To compare them all in one place, start with my Bergen County neighborhood guide. Niche currently ranks River Vale #18 of 414 New Jersey suburbs for raising a family and #24 for buying a house.
